Jayhawks Battle On Day Two Of Nationals

CHAUTAUQUA – It was a much more pleasant day for golf as the Jamestown Community College golf team competed in Round Two of the 2022 NJCAA D3 Men's Golf National Championships Wednesday morning at the Chautauqua Golf Club.

 

The Jayhawks were led this round by Kyle Smallback (Randolph, NY/Randolph HS) who battled to get a round score of 97 and a total of 190 for the week to sit in 60th place. Smallback had a front nine score of 48 where he had par on hole three to go along with a pair of bogeys. On the back nine, Smallback had a pair of bogeys on the first two holes but finished the round with pars on 17 and 18.

 

Noah Adams (Mayville, NY/Chautauqua Lake Central) saw some setbacks early in the round to finish the day with a score of 96 and a two-day score of 187 to put him tied for 58th. Like Smallback, Adams had a tough start to his round, shooting par on a pair of holes to go along with four bogeys with a score of 38 on the front nine. On the back nine, Adams also had a score of 48 where he parred two holes to go along with three bogeys.

 

Josh Brown (Randolph, NY/Randolph HS) was the third Jayhawk to take the course, finishing the round with a score of 95 and a two-day total of 186 to be tied for 56th. Brown shot a 45 on the front nine where he had a birdie on hole four to go along with three pars and two bogeys. On the back nine, Brown saw a few more setbacks to come away with a score of 50 where he had two pars and three bogeys.

 

The final Jayhawk golfer to hit the fairways was Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS) who shot an 86 on the day for a two-day total of 163 to put him tied for 22nd. Gray had bogeys shots on five holes to go along with a par on seven to have a front nine score of 43. On the back nine, Gray shot a 43 as well where he had one birdie, two pars, and five bogeys to close the day out.

 

As a team, the Jayhawk still remain in 10th place where they shot 374 on the day for a two-day total of 726.

 

Sandhills CC remains in the first place on the week with a total of 588 and the College of DuPage has taken the second place spot with a total of 588. Andreas Huber of Sandhills CC and Damien Guerrero of College of DuPage are tied atop the leaderboard with totals of 145. Austin Wood of Sandhills CC is third with a total of 146.

 

On the women's side, Scotty Foley of Sandhills CC is in the lead with a total of 160 with teammate Ava Ray in second place with a score of 170.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action tomorrow, June 9th, as they compete in day three of the NJCAA D3 Men's Golf National Championships at 9:00 a.m.
