Jayhawks Sit Third In Team Standing After Day One Of Nationals

CHAUTAUQUA – It was a fantastic first round of the 2023 NJCAA D3 Men's Golf National Championships as the Jamestown Community College golfers find themselves sitting in third place in the team standings out of the 11 qualifying teams.

 

The Jayhawks put together a first-round team score of 318 with Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS) leading the way with a 75 and tied for eighth place. Starting on the 10th tee, Gray made an eagle on the hole to set the tone. Gray backed that up with six pars. Moving onto the front, Gray made six pars. Brady Fye (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern High) shot his best round score of the season, handing in a card of 77 and sits tied for 15th. Fye had four birdies on the back nice to go along with one par. On the front, Fye had five pars.

 

Anthony Gullo (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) came in with a score of 80 and is tied for 26th. Gullo got the birdie on his first hole at 10 and finished with four pars. On the front nine, Gullo came away with one birdie and five pars. Austyn Cummings (Warren, PA/Warren Area HS) was the fourth scorer for JCC, coming in with a score 86 and is tied for 49th. Cummings birdied his first hole of the day to go along with a pair of pars. On the front, Cummings had four pars. Noah Adams (Mayville, NY/Chautauqua Lake Central) came in with a score of 87 and is tied for 53rd. On the back nine, Adams had three pars to go along with five pars on the front nine.

 

Sandhills Community College currently sits in first place with the team standing with a score of 292. Georgia Military College is in second place with a score of 301. In the individual standings, Alex Martin of Sandhills CC shot a 68 with Nick Johnson of Georgia Military shooting a 69. Ben Read (Sandhills CC) and Sean Barrett (Niagara County CC) sit in third and fourth place with scores of 72 and 73. Lane Jenkins (Hudson Valley CC), Nathan Hellar (Jefferson CC), and Troy Loughry (Butler County CC) round out the top-five with scores of 74.

 

On the women's side, Oxford College of Emory sits first in the team standings with a score of 393 with RCSJ-Gloucester in second place with a score of 420. Individually, Trinity Ahing of Sandhills CC is in first with a score of 74 with teammate Ava Ray shooting a 79 for second place. Ellia Soydara of Minnesota Community & Technical College and Scotty Foley of Sandhills CC each shot an 84. Julia Bazata of Oxford rounds put the top five with a score of 86.

 

Action will continue as golfers will compete in the second-round tomorrow morning with the first tee time set for 9:00 a.m.
