Golf Looks To Compete For Top Spot At Regionals

JAMESTOWN – Heading into the 2023 NJCAA Region 3 Golf Championships, the Jamestown Community College men's golf team will look to be atop of the team scoring with the hopes of having some of their student-athletes earn All-Region honors.

"Going into the season, we knew certain guys could do certain things," said head coach George Sisson. "As the season progressed, we'd start to see the other guys play more consistently. We have a few guys leading the way in those mid to high 70's scores while the others are in that mid 80's range."

As a team, the Jayhawks have been in the upper half of the region with their best finish of second place coming at the Panther Invitational while never finishing below fourth place for the rest of the regular season out of the nine competing teams within the region.

"Region 3 has some really good golf," Sisson said. "If our guys came all come out with what I know they are capable of, I like our chances to be there at the end."

Leading the Jayhawks is Anthony Gullo (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS), who has an average of 78.25, performed his best the first weekend of the season. In his first outing, Gullo earned medalist honors at the Panther Invitational, shooting a 71. Gullo baked up that performance with a score of 71 at the Lazer Invitational. Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS), who has an average of 79.75, will also look to have a strong outing as he finished within the top-10 each week with his highest finish being tied for second at the Jayhawk Invitational and Viking Invitational with scores of 75 and 77.

Austyn Cummings (Warren, PA/Warren Area HS), who has an average of 85.75 throughout the season, came on strong towards the end of the regualr season, shooting his best round of 76 a week ago at the Cannoneer Invitational. Noah Adams (Mayville, NY/Chautauqua Lake Central), who averaged 79.625, has made tremendous strides from a year ago, shooting his best round of 79 at the Vikings Invitational.

Brady Fye (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern High), who has averaged 86.75 on the year, also came into his own towards the end of the regular season, shooting his best of 81 at the Cannoneer Invitational. Athanasios Bakas (North Riding, Johannesburg, South Africa/The King's College and Preparatory School), who averaged 87.125, rounds out the JCC golfers with his best score of 84 came at the Timberwolves Invitational.

The Jayhawks will compete at Glen Oak Golf Course this Monday, May 15th, and will conclude the championship round on Tuesday, May 16th.
