Jayhawks Primed For 2022 Season

JAMESTOWN – The last of the Jamestown Community College athletic team will begin competition with the golf team getting started this weekend.

"This is always an exciting time of the year," said second-year head coach George Sisson. "Baseball and softball are well into their season and our guys and eager to get after it. I believe we are ready to go out and compete."

There will be many new faces on the team this year but bring back a pair of veterans in Josh Brown (Randolph, NY/Randolph HS) and Matthew Fennell (Fourways Garden, Johannesburg, South Africa/King Edwards VII School).

"I'm excited to see what Josh and Matthew can bring to the team this season," said Sisson. "Last year, these guy were down the list on the team and I'll be looking for them to be the leaders and keep us competitive."

Making their collegiate debut will be Noah Adams (Mayville, NY/Chautauqua Lake Central), Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS), Trevor Harrington (Arcade, NY/Pioneer Central), Connor Hogg (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa/King Edwards VII School), Keagan Hogg (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa/King Edwards VII School), and Kyle Smallback (Randolph, NY/Randolph HS).

"We have a larger than normal team this season," Sisson said. "We're going to mix up the lineups throughout the season and see which one gives us the best chance to succeed once post season rolls around. We got some guys that can really strike the ball off the tee, ones that excel in the iron game and some that can hit any put. This will be good to have the friendly competition within our team."

The Jayhawks will begin their season this Friday, April 8th, as they play at Tompkins Cortland Community College followed by their match at Onondaga Community College on Saturday.

The team will have the following week of with the holiday and resume completion on Friday, April 22nd, as they compete at Mohawk Valley Community College. They next day, the team will make the quick drive north to play at SUNY Adirondack.

The last weekend in April, the team will stay within Western New York as they will compete at Chautauqua Golf Club on April 29th and then travel north to Niagara County Community College. "Having the Region 3 Championships held at the Chautauqua Golf Club is a huge advantage for everyone within the region," Sisson said. "To have more rounds on the course that you will look to compete for a national championship, it doesn't get any better."

The team will conclude the season at the 2022 NJCAA Division III Golf Championship from June 7-10 at the aforementioned Chautauqua Golf Club, hosted by Jamestown Community College for the 22nd time since 1999. Chautauqua Golf Club will also be the site if the inaugural NJCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship.
