Jayhawks Continue to Impress in Session 1 of Day 3

FORT PIERCE, FL - Jamestown Community College's swimming and diving teams continued to make their mark in Session One of Day Three in the NJCAA national championships at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida.

The morning started with the 100-individual medley, where Paiden Wittmeyer of Cassadaga Valley and South African Stacey Blackler set new personal bests and reached the consolation finals. If they can place top 12, they will earn an All-American honorable mention. In the men's event, Southwestern's Brady Lindstrom set a new JCC record while claiming a spot in the consolation final.

Next up was the 500 freestyle, where Ella Fosberg also made the consolation final, with a time of 6:19:91. Madison Kramer hit the water next in the 100 backstroke. The Falconer native put up a personal best time of 59:81, good enough for a third seed and an All-American patch.

In the 100 breaststroke, Jamestown's Lindsey Spitz claimed a spot in the final with a seventh-place finish and another All-American accolade. Flipping to 100 breaststroke, the duo of Lindstrom and Frewsburg alum Toby Gifford both reached personal best, and Lindstrom made the consolation final.

The last event in the swimming pool was the 200 butterfly. For the ladies, Hayley Dawson from New Zealand and Anna Jones of Southwestern made the consolation final, and South African Maxim Johnson set a new school record of 1:56:63, good enough for a fourth-place seed in the championship.

"It was great to see the guys come out hard and fast. Two new school records with Brady and Max. As I mentioned last night they keep striving to get into that second place spot. On the ladies' side, overall everyone got back for the finals tonight, and that is really the focus of the prelims, so we can score the most points in tonight's evening session," said head coach Todd Conklin.

Last up was the 3-meter dives, where Southwestern alum Ashlynn Swan came in fourth and reached the championship finals.

"Today was different conditions that we dove in. We went from rain to 90 degrees. I thought Ashlynn dove well as we transitioned from prelims to the championship finals. We will try some new dives in practice for finals and see if we can ramp up her score," said diving coach Claire Johnson.

The men and women are back in the pool tonight at 5:30 PM.
