Johnson Captures 1st in 100 Butterfly; JCC Men Finish 4th in Snow Flurry Invitational

CORTLAND, NY - Jamestown Community College men's swimming and diving finished fourth in the Snow Flurry Invitational at SUNY Cortland.

"It was a great meet for our teams! We really swam well with everyone improving. Maddie Kramer with three individual wins. Max (Johnson) with one individual win. Ella Fosberg really impressed with her swims and drops. Anna Jones first meet and such great swims," said head coach Todd Conklin.

Maxim Johnson (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa / King Edward VII School) had the best showing for the Jayhawks, bringing home 1st in the 100-yard butterfly. Teammates Lukas Baer (Jamestown, NY / Maple Grove Central) finished 13th, and Colton Schuman (Allegany, NY / Allegany-Limestone HS) 14th.

Johnson was also JCC's top performer in the 100-yard freestyle, where he earned a 3rd just six-tenths of the winner's mark. Fellow Jayhawks Baer earned 27th, Rinat Kalimullin (Kazan, Russia / Boarding Lyceum NO. 7) 28th, Schuman 30th, and Randall Hall 32nd.

JCC placed five in the 100-yard backstroke. Brady Lindstrom (Lakewood, NY / Southwestern Central School) was the best of the bunch, with a 6th place finish. Steve Zentz (Dunkirk, NY / Dunkirk HS) clocked in 11th, Toby Gifford (Frewsburg, NY / Frewsburg HS) 12th, Kalimullin 16th, and Hall 17th.

It was another trio of Jayhawks in the 200-yard breaststroke. Lindstrom notched a 6th place time, Zentz 9th, and Gifford 10th.

Switching to the relays, JCC brought home 4th in the 200-yard freestyle behind the swims of Johnson, Zentz, Gifford, and Lindstrom. The group of Schuman, Baer, Hall, and Kalimullin finished 9th.

Lastly, in the 400-yard freestyle relay it was Linstrom, Zentz, Gifford, and Johnson coming in 7th while Baer, Hall, Kalimullin, and Shuman were 10th.

"We had a great first half of our season and we are really looking forward to having the next month to focus on training before we start the second semester. We have large goals ahead of us and I know our kids are ready to impress in the second half," added Conklin.

The team has a long break coming up. JCC isn't back in the competitive waters until they visit Erie Community College for the Erie Invite on Friday, January 12th.
