Jayhawks Finish Third At Regionals; Johnson Named Swimmer Of The Meet And Year

ROCHESTER - During the final day of the NJCAA Region 3 Swimming & Diving Championships, the Jamestown Community College finished in third place, tallying 318 points.

To start the day off, Maxim Johnson placed first in the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 23.90, a new school and region record. Gavin Roux (East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa/Selborne College) made the podium for the first time for the weekend, placing sixth in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:05.31, cutting five seconds off his previous personal best.

In the 200 yard backstroke, Joseph Keyser (Mayville, NY/Chautauqua Lake Central) continued his strong weekend, placing fourth with a time of 2:35.04. In the 200 yard breaststroke, Steven Zentz placed fifth with a time of 2:46.27.

To cap off the swimming, the relay team of Zentz, Keyser, Johnson, and Josh Carr (Wigan, England/Standish Community HS) placed second in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:44.30

After the meet, Johnson was named the NJCAA Region 3 Men's Swimming & Diving Swimmer of the Meet while also being named the NJCAA Region 3 Men's Swimming & Diving Swimmer of the Year. 

The Jayhawks will now prepare for the 2023 NJCAA Swimming & Diving Championships that start on March 1st in Buffalo at the Burt Flickinger Center.
