Johnson Sets New School Record In Final WNYAC Meet

BUFFALO – In their final WNYAC Meet of the season, the Jamestown Community College women's swimming & diving team went 2-1 at the Burt Flickinger Center.

 

The Jayhawks (2-6) defeated Genesee Community College by a score of 74-61 and Erie Community College by a score of 72-55. JCC did fall to Monroe Community College by a score of 118-55.

 

"The kids are really swimming well and setting themselves up for a fantastic regionals and national swim meets," said head coach Todd Conklin. "I couldn't be happier with our results and where we are. But I also know that this team has so much more to give and can't wait for the championship portion of the season."

 

Freshman Maxim Johnson continues to set new records, setting a new record in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.95 while placing first in the event. Johnson also placed first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.17.

 

Sophomore Joseph Keyser (Mayville, NY/Chautauqua Lake Central) placed second in the 100 yard freestyle, posting a new personal best with a time of 54.96. Freshman Steven Zentz also posted a second-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 6:03.56.

 

Freshman Gavin Roux (East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa/Selborne College) continues to show improvements in the pool, posting a time of 29.66 in the 50 yard freestyle and 1:10.73 in the 100 yard freestyle, both personal bests.

 

The relay team of Keyser, Zentz, Johnson, and Josh Carr (Wigan, England/Standish Community HS) placed first in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:56.17.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action next Wednesday, January 25th, as they travel to Fredonia State for a 6 p.m. meet.
