Jayhawks Sweep Meet at Fredonia State

FREDONIA, NY - Jamestown Community College made the short trip up Routh 60 to take on Fredonia State Thursday night and came home with a men's and women's sweep of the Blue Devils.

The women took their side 120 to 88. Starting with the distance swimmers, Jamestown took first and second in 1,000 free, as Ella Fosberg won, with Anna Jones finishing just behind her teammate.

In the 500 free, Jones took third and Stacey Blackler fourth.

In the quick swims, Paidern Wittmeyer earned second, with Blacker coming in fourth.

JCC dominated the 50-yard free as Madison Kramer captured gold, Ashlynn Swan bronze, and Shalynn Owens fourth.

Flipping to 200 individual medley, reigning Region 3 swimmer of the week Lindsey Spitz won, with teammate Hayley Dawson claiming third.

The 100 butterfly saw Kramer bring home the win, Jones touched behind her in second. Kramer also won the 100 backstroke, Ella Fosberg was again just behind her in second.

Spitz, Dawson, and Blackler claimed second, fourth, and fifth respectively, in the 100 breaststroke.

Jamestown also won the 200-yard freestyle relay with the Fosberg, Owens, Spiz, and Wittmeyer. In the diving pool, Swan won the 1-meter and 3-meter events, and Owens took second in the 1-meter dive.

"Overall, the coaches are happy with where both teams are as we get ready for regionals and nationals," said head coach Todd Conklin.

On the men's side, Maxim Johnson led a top-three sweep for the Jayhawks, teammates Lukas Baer and Rinat Kalimullin were second and third in the 50-yard freestyle event.

Johnson also won the 100-yard butterfly, beating the competition by almost ten seconds.

Max also took first in the 500-yard free, breaking the program record in the process with a 6:16:05.

Brady Lindstrom also had a great night, he took first in both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke.

In the free, Toby Gifford took third and Baer fourth. In the breaststroke, Gifford and Randall Hall also earned spots on the podium.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Kalimullin and Colton Schuman claimed second and third.

Finishing up with the 200-yard events, Schuman took third in the free, Lindstrom and Gifford were second and third in the individual medley, and the JCC relay squad of Baer, Kalimullin, Schuman, and Hall finished second.

"We are looking forward to this final meet of our regular season to finish on a high note. I emphasized to both teams how important it was to finish on a strong note and get ready for championship season," added Conklin.

Up next, for the swimmers is the Last Chance Meet at Monroe Community College on Saturday, February 10th.
