Jayhawks Have Strong Individual Performances in Opener

FREDONIA - The Jamestown Community College men's swimming & diving team opened up the 2021-22 season Saturday afternoon at Fredonia State University, falling 162-38.

 

The Jayhawks (0-1) were led by veteran Colby Pantall (Jamestown, NY/Maple Grove HS), coming away with three top-three finishes on the afternoon. Pnatall placed first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:51.96, a new personal best. Pantall placed second in the 500 yard freestyle (6:13.63) and third in the 100 yard freestyle with a new personal best of 58.74.

 

Matthew Fennell (Fourways Garden, Johannesburg, South Africa/King Edwards VII School) also had a strong showing in the season-opener, posting three top-three finishes as well. Fennel placed second in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:32.12. Fennel backed that up with a second place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke with a new personal best of 1:13.25. Fennell wrapped up his day with a third place finish in the 50 yard breaststroke with a personal best of 32.99.

 

Newcomer Cole Carlson also had three top-three finishes including two second place finishes in the 50 yard freestyle (25.49) and 100 yard freestyle (57.45). Carlson's day was capped off with a third place finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:12.55.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action next Saturday, November 6th, as they travel to Rochester for the Monroe Community College Invitational.
