Noah Weinstein is a sophomore member of the Jayhawks baseball team. He played football, hockey, and baseball in high school at Southwestern; there he served as the team captain for football and baseball 10th through 12th grade, and was a 1st Team All-League catcher as a sophomore and junior. Weinstein is studying Business Administration at JCC and plans to attend a four-year school and eventually earn his master's degree. The Buffalo Sabres are his favorite sports team.

Spotlight Athlete of the Week

This week’s spotlight athlete is Noah Weinstein, a sophomore member of our baseball team. When deciding on becoming a Jayhawk, it was an easy decision for him. It is within a close proximity to home, and very reasonably priced. Another thing that helped him make his decision was Coach Matt Cummings, “he contacted me and talked to me about it, which made me become very interested in the growing program and made it something that I wanted to be a part of.”

When he’s not playing baseball, he enjoys hanging out with the other boys on the team at the dorms and playing video games together.

As for college athletics, there’s a lot that Weinstein enjoys about it. “I like the friends that I’ve made, along with all of the people that I’ve met from other teams. I really enjoy the difference in the level of competition from high school to college, we get to see Division 1 and MLB prospects every game.”

Being on the team last year, he can see a big difference between the two seasons, “The team chemistry and atmosphere is a lot better from last year to this year. We also have a lot more talent and depth on the roster this year.”

As for next year, Weinstein doesn’t know where he’s headed yet, but he says that he would rather make a decision based on the academics at the school instead of the athletic side of things, but he would like to continue to do both wherever he does end up.

For other athletes, he says, “Work hard now, and don’t take days off. Focus on your studies as much as you focus on baseball and have a positive attitude. Make sure to also have fun and enjoy the days that you have left to play the sport that you love.
