Jayhawks Route TC3 To Take Season Series Sweep

DRYDEN - It was an offensive explosion for the Jamestown Community College baseball team Wednesday afternoon, outsourcing Tompkins Cortland Community College, 37-7, in the series sweep.

 

Game 1: Jamestown Community College 16 - Tompkins Cortland Community College 4

The Jayhawks (8-7, 7-3 Region 3 West) collected 13 hits in the first match up with five batters each collecting two hits. Shortstop Nate Johnson (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern High) had two doubles with left fielder Wyatt Hennessy (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago HS) also collecting a double.

 

Third baseman Tanner Potter (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg HS) led the team in RBIs with three while four Jayhawks each drove in two runners.

 

 JCC started off slow, scoring a run in each of the first two innings. The Panthers responded, scoring two in the bottom of the second to square things up. From that point on, the Jayhawks outscored TC3 14-2 with 10 runs coming in the fourth inning.

 

Pitcher Billy Harmon (Racine, OH/Southern Local) went the distance on the mound for his second win of the season, allowing four runs, three earned, while giving up two hits and striking out three batters.

 

Game 2: Jamestown Community College 21 - Tompkins Cortland Community College 3

The Dirty Birds continued their offensive onslaught in the backend of the doubleheader, scoring 14 runs in the first two innings of action.

 

First baseman Yordangel Gonzalez (Miami, FL/Miami Jackson Senior HS) lead the way in the second game going 3-for-3 from the plate, including his third bomb of the season, and driving in four runs. Four batters had two hits each in the outing.

 

Jackson Yost (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS) had a memorable game, hitting his first homerun at any level of baseball, in his young athletic career. Four batters also added extra base hits on the day.

 

Catcher Lucas Porpiglia (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) and Gonzalez led the way in RBIs with four each while infielder Zach Zulawski (Melbourne, FL/Viera HS) added three RBIs.

 

Pitcher Zach Rohlin (Russell, PA/Eisenhower HS) picked up his first-career win on the bump, fanning five hits while giving up three runs and striking out nine batters.

 

The Jayhawks will have a quick turnaround as they face SUNY Broome Community College tomorrow, April 14th, with a 1 p.m. first pitch. The scheduled home game will be played at Bolivar-Richburg High School due to continued wet weather in the Jamestown area.
