Hennessy's Two Bombs Launch Jayhawks Past Hornets

BINGHAMTON – In their final series with SUNY Broome Community College, the Jamestown Community College baseball team came away with two crucial wins in Region 3 action Tuesday afternoon.

 

Game 1: Jamestown Community College 11 – SUNY Broome Community College 3

The Jayhawks (11-16, 10-12 Region 3 West) got out tow an early 3-1 lead after two innings of action and didn't look back. The Hornets did pull within two runs after four innings but JCC piled on four runs in the fifth and salted the game away with three runs in the seventh.

 

Left fielder Wyatt Hennessy (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago HS) had a career-game, going 3-for-5 with two home runs, one double, and six RBIs. Cather Lucas Porpiglia (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) and right fielder Billy Harmon (Racine, OH/Southern Local) also came up clutch with an extra base hit apiece.

 

Center fielder Ayden Reagle (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove HS) showed off his base running skills, coming away with three stolen bases.

 

Pitcher Bryce Jackson (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) earned the win on the bump, going six innings while fanning out four hits and striking out seven batters. Alex Kemery (Youngsville, PA/Youngsville HS) closed the game out, allowing no hits in one inning of action.

 

Game 2: Jamestown Community College 10 – SUNY Broome Community College 6

The Jayhawks did not let up in the second game as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead after three innings of action.

 

First baseman Yordangel Gonzalez (Miami, FL/Miami Jackson Senior HS) and pitcher Tanner Potter (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg HS) each had a pair of hits with Gonzalez having one double on the afternoon. Hennessy, Reagle, and Potter each drove in a pair of runs to keep the offense humming.

 

Potter got the win on the mound, going six innings while giving up 10 hits and six runs, two earned. Nate Johnson (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern High) closed the game out, giving up one hit and one run.

 

The Jayhawks will be off until Saturday, May 7th, as they travel to No. 5 Niagara County Community College for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
