JAMESTOWN – For the first time in program history, the Jamestown Community College will be hosting a NJCAA Region 3 Semifinal game, playing against the sixth-seeded Onondaga Community College Lazers.

"OCC is a very good team," said head coach Pat Anderson. "They have played the top teams in the region and all games were highly contested. Their roster is deep and talented. As a team, we have had a very good week of preparation with high energy and intensity. The team is excited to host OCC."

The Jayhwks (10-5-2, 8-2-1 Region 3) have been led offensively by freshman standout Alex Watt (Belfast, Northern Ireland/Campbell College) who leads the team with an astonishing 15 goals on the year. Watt's 15 goals ranks him third in Region 3 and fifth nationally. During his first season, Watt has set a new mark in Jayhawk men's soccer in goals scored in a season and is currently tied for most goals scored in a career. Watt was a two-time NJCAA Region 3 Player of the Week honoree throughout the season.

The Jayhawks have also found success with forward Ethan Richardson (Llanharlan, Wales/Bridgend College) and midfielder Jesse Plaatjes (Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa/Northwood) who have scored five goals each.

Sophomore forward Tholo Malebo (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa/Crawford International-Lonehill) has been key in facilitating the JCC offense, leading the team with six assists. Freshman wingers Callum Featherstone (Hull, England/Barnsley College) and James Cassidy (Glasgow, Scotland/Calderglen HS) have been productive players in their first season, each having five assists.

In net, the Jayhawks have been led by freshman goalkeeper Gavin Roux (East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa/Selborne College) who has surrendered eight goals all season and averaging .65 goals against per game. Roux has had national recognition throughout his freshman campaign, being named NJCAA Division III Goalkeeper of the Week twice. Roux has benefited from his strong play and a strong defense, handing in six clean sheets which is tied for more shutouts in a season.

The Jayhawks will have to have a strong defensive presence during the semifinal game, facing the second-rank scoring offense in the region. The Lazers have been led offensively by Adam Webster who leads the region with 22 goals and Caio Hughes who is second in the region with 18 assists on the season. OCC has also shown to have a stout defense, surrendering 16 goals on the season.

The NJCAA Region 3 Semifinal game will be played tomorrow, October 26th, with a 2 p.m. start at the JCC Grass Field. The winner will be one step closer on making a berth into the national tournament.
