Jayhawks Blank The Kats On Sophomore Day; Watt Sets Single Season Goal Record

JAMESTOWN – On a beautiful autumn day in Chautauqua County, the Jamestown Community College men's soccer team handled business against Erie Community College, defeating them by a score of 5-0 on Sophomore Day.

It was a historic day for the Jayhawks (9-4-2, 8-2-1 Region 3) as freshman forward Alex Watt (Belfast, Northern Ireland/Campbell College) broke the record for goals scored in a season, getting his 12th goal on the year. Watt passed Blake Barker who posted an 11 goal season during the 2012 campaign.

It took JCC some time to get on the board but saw their first goal come in the 22nd minute mark with midfielder Tiago Aguilar breaking up the tie game with the assists going to forward Tholo Malebo (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa/Crawford International-Lonehill). Nine minutes later, Malebo's efforts on the offensive end were rewarded, scoring in the 31st minute off the feed from defender Carlos Kramer (Caxia do Sul, RS, Brazil/CETEC-UCS) as the Jayhawks took a 2-0 lead into the break.

Coming out of half, defender Blessing Morombo (Leeds, England) got on the board off the combination passing from forward Josh Heim (Westfield, NY/Westfield Central) and Malebo in the 57th minute. In the 65th minute, Watt scored his record-breaking goal with Malebo adding yet again another assist on his stellar day. Minutes later, Morombo added another goal from about 30 yards out with winger James Cassidy (Glasgow, Scotland/Calderglen HS) getting the assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Gavin Roux (East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa/Selbourne College) went the distance in net, earning the clean sheet. Roux's shutout gives him six on the season, tied for most shutouts in a season set by Tyler Dykstra during the 2013 season.

Prior to the game, the Jayhawks recognized Owain Jones (Cardiff, Wales/Coleg Y Cymoedd), Ethan Richardson (Llanharan, Wales/Bridgend College), Tshepiso Ntuli (Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa/Pretoria Boys HS), Jesse Plaatjes (Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa/Northwood), Leonhard Kamann (Potsdam, Germany/Einstein-Gymnasium Potsdam), Mohamed Belmahdi (Compiegne, France/Lycee Pierr d'Ailly), Mario Alberto Campo (Santa Marta, Colombia/Gimnasio de los Cerros), Kramer, Heim, Aguilar, and Malebo for their contributions to the men's soccer program during their time here.

The Jayhawks will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Roberts Wesleyan University tomorrow, October 16th, for a 1 p.m. start time.
