TROY — Courtesy of three successful penalty kicks, Hudson Valley Community College handed Jamestown CC a 4-2 NJCAA Region 3 Division III soccer setback Friday.

The loss dropped the Jayhawks to 2-8-2 overall and 1-8 in Region 3 Division III.

Hudson Valley converted a pair of penalty kicks — one by Johnnie Ellis and the other by Benjamin Peay — to take a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Jackson Rybicki got Jamestown CC on the board off a direct kick by Scott Crowe with 37 minutes remaining, but Hudson Valley needed just two minutes to improve its lead to 3-1, courtesy of a goal by Ryan Ewell.

The Jayhawks narrowed the deficit to 3-2 when Tyler Pride found the back of the net on a header from Ray Amborski with 27 minutes left. The score stayed that way until Garrett Axtmana converted Hudson Valley CC's third penalty kick of the game with 4:12 remaining.

Kevin Granads made seven saves for the winners. Nick Mole had nine stops for the Jayhawks.

Jamestown CC returns to action at 2 p.m. Sunday when it entertains Tompkins-Cortland CC.
