PLATTSBURGH — For the second straight day, Jamestown Community College lost a 2-1 NJCAA Region 3 Division III men's soccer game in the North Country.

On Sunday, Clinton CC scored two minutes into overtime to upend the Jayhawks.

"We're playing really good soccer and not putting the ball into the net," Jamestown CC coach Pat Anderson said. "We have outplayed both teams, but if you don't put the ball in the net, the rest of it doesn't make a difference."

Justin LaPorte gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead 27 minutes into the second half after the Jayhawks' were called for a hand ball in the box. LaPorte converted the penalty kick and Jamestown CC (0-2, 0-2) was forced to play a man down for the remainder of the game.

Nyle Bird scored his second collegiate goal with 13 minutes remaining off an assist from Judah Herr to tie the game at 1-all for the Jayhawks.

Bird nearly won the game with less than five seconds remaining, but his shot just missed the net.

"He had a good weekend. He's been pretty successful," Anderson said of Bird. "He's managed to get himself into some good positions. Most importantly he's put a couple away. When you are a freshman coming in, it's always great to knock a few in."

Clinton CC won the game when David Gilbert converted a cross two minutes into overtime to beat Nick Mole, who made five saves for the Jayhawks.

Mathieu Averill made 10 saves for the Cougars (1-0, 1-0).
