Men's Baseball vs Genesee CC

The JCC Jayhawks men's baseball team (NJCAA Div II, 6-19) traveled to face the Cougars of Genesee Community College (NJCAA Div II, 10-27) in double header action.  The Jayhawks got off to a fast start, scoring 3 runs in the 1st inning while shutting down the Cougars offense.  However, that did not last long as the 2nd inning saw the Jayhawks being shut down while the Cougars scored 8 runs.  The 3rd inning saw the Jayhawks score 2 runs to cut the lead to 8-5 in favor of the Cougars and both teams went scoreless in the 4th inning.  The Jayhawks added 2 more runs in the 5th inning to close the scoring gap 8-7.  That did not last long as when the Cougars offense got up to bat, they hot again and added 6 more runs to jump ahead 14-7.  The Jayhawks added another run in the 6th but the Cougars returned the favor in the 7th with a run of their own to down the Jayhawks 15-8.  The Jayhawks offense was led specifically by one player whose bat was able to find the ball in a big way on numerous occasions, #15 Connor Fitzgerald (Ontario) had 3 hits, 3 RBI's, scored 3 runs, and hit 2 home runs.  Other contributors to the Jayhawks offense were #21 Robbie Burgess (Westfield) who had 1 hit, 1 RBI, and scored 3 runs; #8 Michael Keller (Clarence) who had 1 hit and scored 1 run; #7 Noah Weinstein (Jamestown) who had 1 RBI; and #18 Michael Wilcox (Falconer) scored 1 run.  The defense was led by pitcher #9 Jeff Miller (Jamestown) (1-1) who took the loss while facing 33 batters, gave up 12 hits and 4 earned runs, and struck out 3 batters.

The second game of the double header saw a much closer matchup between the two teams.  The Panthers got on the board first in the bottom of the 1st inning and carried that lead into the 3rd inning where they added two more runs to take a 3-0 lead.  The 4th inning saw the Jayhawks get on the board, scoring 1 run and they repeated that in the 5th inning to close the gap 3-2.  The 6th inning saw the Jayhawks score two runs to take a 4-3 lead but that was quickly matched when the Panthers came up to bat where they took the lead back 5-4.  The 7th inning saw the Jayhawks score again, putting the in position to go to extra innings after the score was tied 5-5.  But the Panthers spoiled the Jayhawks comeback dreams with a score of their own in the bottom of the 7th inning to down the Jayhawks 6-5.  The Jayhawks offense was led again by the red hot hitter #15 Connor Fitzgerald (Ontario) who 2 hits, 3 RBI's, and 1 home run; #2 Cam Haberberger (Jamestown) who had 3 hits and scored 1 run; #5 Kyle Mayer (Mayville) who had 2 hits and 1 RBI; #8 Michael Keller (Clarence) who had 2 hits and scored 1 run; and #23 Andrew Latona (Jamestown) who had 1 hit and 1 RBI.  The Jayhawks defense was led by pitcher #3 John White (Warren) (0-2) who took the loss while facing 22 batters, gave up 6 hits and 4 earned runs, and struck out 2 batters.
