Jayhawks Make a Splash in Session 1 of Day 2 at Nationals

FORT PIERCE, FL - Jamestown Community College made a splash in the early session of day two in the NJCAA swimming and diving national championships, placing five more swimmers in All-American status. The morning started with Madison Kramer qualifying fifth in the 50-yard backstroke to be the first Jayhawk to lock in a spot in the championship final and the coveted top-eight finish to earn All-American. She was followed up by Hayley Dawson and Anna Jones, each improving on their seeding to finish seventh and eighth. Jones was able to cut five seconds off of her personal best to sneak into the finals. JCC was well represented in the 100-yard butterfly, where Kramer again captured a spot in the finals with a seventh-place finish. Teammate Paiden Wittmeyer will be in the consultation finals, finishing 13th. In the 200-yard freestyle, Stacey Blackler just missed out on the top eight with a tenth-place race.

Maxim Johnson was the lone men's swimmer of the morning. The sophomore also locked up a championship spot in the 100 butterfly, finishing in sixth.

"It was the best session we've had so far. Every swimmer earned a consolation or final which will lead to a great point night for us. Maddie (Kramer) with two great swims on the cusp of two records. Max with a top six and a near-record swim. Overall, we put ourselves to have a really big record night tonight," said head coach Todd Conklin.

The men and women are back in the pool tonight at 5:30 PM.
