Jayhawks Stay Hot in Sweep of Corning

JAMESTOWN, NY - It was a perfect afternoon for baseball at Diethrick Park on Tuesday, and Jamestown Community College took full advantage as they swept Corning Community College 13-7 and 10-0.

Corning took an early lead in the top half of the 1st, but the Jayhawks bats silenced any noise from the visiting dugout in the bottom of the frame, putting up seven runs. Mitchell McKinney got things started with an RBI double to even the score at 1-1. He was followed by a two-RBI single from Tim Beimel and an RBI double from Lucas Marsh, and just like that, the score was 4-1 JCC. The Jayhawks were aided by a few Corning errors later in the inning to finish with a 7-1 lead. It was a pair of RBI sac flies in the 3rd and 4th by Beimel and De'Sean Rogers, pushing the advantage to eight runs at 9-1 heading to the 4th. Corning closed the game to 9-5 in the inning, but JCC had an answer with another Marsh RBI followed by an error plating another run to make it 12-5. Rogers would drive in a run in the 6th for your final Jamestown total of 13. Corning pushed a pair across in the 7th, but it wasn't enough as JCC took home game one 13-7.

In game two, it was all about Beimel on the bump. The sophomore took the ball and went six strong, allowing zero runs with six strikeouts and scattering four hits in the 10-0 victory. JCC drove home three in the 1st, Haryley Hoag got things started with a sac fly RBI, Beimel helped himself with another sac fly RBI, then Marsh finished off the scoring with a single to bring in McKinney. The score stayed 3-0 JCC until the 4th, where it was singles across the board for Marsh, Jax Arcuri, and Rogers driving in runs to grow the lead to 7-0. Arcuri, Rogers, and Beimel would each add another RBI to their ledger before the game ended with the final of 10-0.

Jamestown has now won four straight as they get ready to hit the road for SUNY Broome on Thursday. JCC visits Genesee Community College on Saturday before hosting GCC on Sunday at noon.
