Jayhawks Split With Finger Lakers

Jayhawks Split With Finger Lakers

SALAMANCA, NY - Jamestown Community College earned a split of their two-game series with Finger Lakes Community College on Sunday, taking game one 5-2 and dropping game two 10-5.

JCC fell behind in game one after a two-run home run plated a pair of Lakers to bring the deficit to 2-0, but from there it was all Jayhawks. Jamestown evened the game in the third, then took the lead on an RBI from Mitchell McKinney, followed by an RBI from Lucas Marsh to give the Jayhawks a 4-2 lead. The 4-2 advantage held into the fourth, where Timothy Johnson smacked a sac fly to make it a three-run lead for JCC. Dylan Kinney shut down the fourth, fifth, and sixth, allowing just two runs for a three e.r.a. He handed the ball off to De'Sean Rogers, who earned the save in the 5-2 victory.

It was a game of ifs for JCC in game two. They trailed 1-0 in the first and appeared to tie things up in the second, but a play at the plate went against Jamestown and ended a fantastic scoring opportunity. The Jayhawks were trailing 5-1 in the third when they started to rally. A bunt for Harley Hoag and another sacrifice for Johnson brought it to 5-3 after three. In the fourth, Jamestown scored two more off of a double from Marsh and a sac-fly from Rogers, and we had a new game with JCC trailing 5-4. From that point, it was errors dooming the Jayhawks as four runs were able to score against JCC thanks mostly to errors, and all of a sudden it was 9-4 Finger Lakes. Both squads added a run in the seventh to bring us to our 10-5 final.

The win in game one snapped a 10-game losing streak for JCC.

These two teams are back at it on Thursday, but this time Jamestown visits Finger Lakes for a pair.
