Baseball Celebrates Sophomores Sunday Afternoon Against Erie CC

JAMESTOWN – Battling mother nature, the Jamestown Community College baseball team face Erie Community College Sunday afternoon at Diethrick Park on Sophomore Day.

 

The Jayhawks (11-27, 9-17 Region 3 West) were downed by the Kats in game one by a score of 18-0 and played in a tight 2-1 game two but came up shy in the feat.

 

Game 1: Erie Community College 18 – Jamestown Community College 0

JCC was able to put the ball in play, coming away with six hits but could not capitalize on the baserunning.

 

Zach Rohlin (Russell, PA/Eisenhower HS) earned the loss on the bump, going one and one-third innings surrendering eight earned runs on four hits. Kodi Colton (Little Valley, NY/Cattaraugus-Little Valley HS) came in for relief to close the game out, surrendering 10 earned runs on seven hits.

 

Game 2: Erie Community College 2 – Jamestown Community College 1

In the backend of the doubleheader, the Jayhawks were led offensively by third baseman Chris Navarro (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) and second baseman Riley Piazza (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) with two hits each with Piazza having a double.

 

ECC got on the board in the first inning to take the early 1-0 lead. After a scoreless inning of play, the Jayhawks were able to get the equalizer in the bottom of the third as right fielder De'Sean Rogers (Winter Haven, FL/Winter haven HS) grounded to second base which drove in Piazza. In the fifth, the Kats were able to score another run to get the win.

 

Tanner Potter (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg HS) went the distance on the mound, giving up one earned run while fanning out four hits.

 

The Jayhawks will close out the regular season this Tuesday, May 9th, as they host No. 5 Niagara County Community College with a 2 p.m. first pitch at Diethrick Park.

 

In between the games, the JCC baseball team recognized 13 individuals for their time, effort, and dedication to the program.
