Jayhawks Get The Shutout In Game One; Split With Gannon

JAMESTOWN - Playing a nightcap at Diethrick Park, the Jamestown Community College baseball team split their doubleheader against Gannon University Wednesday evening.

 

In game one, the Jayhawks (11-21) grinded out a 2-0 win and fell by a score of 14-3 in game two.

 

Game 1: Jamestown Community College 2 - Gannon University 0

The JCC offense was led by shortstop Nate Johnson (Jamestown, NY/Southwestern High) who went two-for-three at the plate with second baseman Riley Piazza (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) and third baseman Chris Navarro (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) each getting a hit in the game.

 

Picking up action in the bottom of the third, Navarro came in to get the Jayhawks on the board with centerfielder Timothy Johnson (San Tan Valley, AZ/Comb HS) hitting a grounder to the shortstop.

 

JCC added their other run in the fourth as pitcher De'Sean Rogers (Winter Haven, FL/Winter Haven HS) came in to score on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.

 

Rogers went the distance on the bump, fanning a pair of hits while striking out four batters.

 

Game 2: Gannon University 14 - Jamestown Community College 3

JCC was led offensively by T. Johnson, who went one-for-two with his lone hit coming as a two-run triple. N. Johnson, Navarro, and pitcher/designated hitter Kenny Nickson III (Erie, PA/Erie HS) each had a hit in the outing as well.

 

After trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the first, the Jayhawks got a run back as Piazza drove in N. Johnson to make it a 5-1 game. JCC tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second where T. Johnson hit a ball to deep right center field to bring in N. Johnson and catcher Kameron Melendez (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) to make it 5-3.

 

Nickson III earned the loss on the mound, going one inning while surrendering five earned runs on four hits. Eddie Bartoli (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown HS) came in for relief duty, going two innings giving up four runs on three hits. Ethan Phillips (East Durham, NY/Cairo-Durham HS) went the next one and two-thirds inning, surrendering five runs on four hits. Walt Rybczynski (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis HS) closed the game out, going one-third inning with a clean sheet.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday, April 29th, as they travel to No. 5 Niagara County Community College for a 1 p.m. start.
