Baseball Drops Doubleheader To FLCC

JAMESTOWN – Though there was a chill in the air, the sun was out at Diethrick Park Tuesday afternoon as the Jamestown Community College baseball team played their home doubleheader against Finger Lakes Community College Tuesday afternoon.

 

The Jayhawks (10-20, 9-11 Region 3 West) fell to the Lakers 10-2 in game one and by a score of 13-3 in game two.

 

Game 1: Finger Lakes Community College 10 – Jamestown Community College 2

The JCC offense was led by second baseman Riley Piazza (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) who went two-for-three including a double and stolen base. Pitcher Timothy Beimel (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys HS) also had a double in the game.

 

Trailing 2-0 after two and a half innings of play, the Jayhawks got on the board to make it 2-1. After Beimel's leadoff double, centerfielder Timothy Johnson (San Tan Valley, AZ/Comb HS) was able to drive him in with a single to right centerfield.

 

The Lakers added another run in the top of the fourth to gain the two-run advantage once again. Left fielder De'Sean Rogers (Winter Haven, FL/Winter Haven HS) closed the gap again, hitting a one-run single to bring in Piazza. FLCC gained their lead in the fifth, scoring seven runs over the next two innings of play.

 

Beimel earned the loss on the mound, going four innings while giving up one earned run on four hits and striking out two. Walt Rybczynski (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis HS) came in for relief, going one-third inning while surrendering five earned runs on two hits. Alex Kemery (Youngsville, PA/Youngsville HS) came in to close the game out, giving up two earned runs on two hits while striking out two.

 

Game 2: Finger Lakes Community College 13 – Jamestown Community College 3

In the backend of the doubleheader, the Jayhawks got hits from shortstop Nate Johnson (Jamestown, NY/Southwestern High), Piazza, and Rogers with Rogers and catcher Wyatt Hennessy (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago HS) each getting an RBI.

 

FLCC held an 8-0 lead, but the Jayhawks were able to get one run back in the bottom of the fourth. After five more runs by the Lakers in the top of the fifth, JCC got across two more runs.

 

Tanner Potter (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg HS) earned the loss on the mound, going two and one-third inning surrendering six earned runs on eight hits. Zach Rohlin (Russell, PA/Eisenhower HS) came in for relief, going one and two-thirds innings giving up a pair of earned runs on one hit. Kodi Colton (Little Valley, NY/Cattaraugus-Little Valley HS) closed the game out, going one inning while surrendering four earned runs.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this afternoon as they host Gannon University for a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader.
