Baseball Completes Season Sweep Of Corning CC

CORNING - Looking to get the season sweep against Corning Community College, the Jamestown Community College baseball team did just that as they took the away doubleheader Sunday afternoon.

The Jayhawks (9-17, 8-8 Region 3 West) came away with a 12-1 win in game one and a 19-8 win in game two.

Game 1: Jamestown Community College 12 - Corning Community College 1

JCC was led offensively by first baseman Kenny Nickson III (Erie, PA/Erie HS) who went three-for-four at the plate while driving in four batters. Four Jayhawks collected two hits each in the contest.

The Jayhawks used a five-run first inning to set the tone of the game and never looked back.

Pitcher Zach Rohlin (Russell, PA/Eisenhower HS) tossed a gem on the mound, giving up zero earned runs on two hits while striking out three batters.

Game 2: Jamestown Community College 19 - Corning Community College 8

JCC got the bats going in game two, collecting 20 hits as a team with shortstop Nate Johnson (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern High), left fielder Timothy Beimel (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys HS), and Nickson III each getting three hits with Beimel and Nickson III hitting two doubles apiece.

The Jayhawks also worked the base running, collecting 11 stolen bases with centerfielder Timothy Johnson (San Tan Valley, AZ/Comb HS) leading the way with three stolen bases. WIth the 11 stolen bases, JCC set a new single game team record, a record that was just set a day ago.

The Red Barons jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after three innings of play. Looking for offense, JCC exploded for 13 runs in the top of the fourth and didn't look back.

Corning did have a late surge in the sixth inning, scoring four runs before JCC salted the game away in the seventh with six more runs scored.

It was pitching by committee to get the win with Alex Kemery (Youngsville, PA/Youngsville HS) going one-third inning, allowing two earned runs on one hit. Ethan Phillips (East Durham, NY/Cairo-Durham HS) came in for relief, going one and two-thirds innings where he allowed two earned runs on four hits. De'Sean Rogers (Winter Haven, FL/Winter Haven HS) went the next three innings to get the win, shutting down the Red Barons' offense by striking out three batters and not giving up a hit. Lucas Marsh (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca HS) came in to close the game out but gave up three earned runs and was replaced by Riley Piazza (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) who closed the game out in the final two innings, surrendering one earned run on three hits and striking out a pair.

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Thursday, April 20th, as they travel to Finger Lakes Community College for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
