Jayhawks Drop Doubleheader To The Cougars

BATAVIA – back on the road for Region 3 action, the Jamestown Community College baseball team fell to host Genesee Community College Thursday afternoon.

 

The Jayhawks (5-17, 4-8 Region 3 West) dropped game one by a score of 8-1 and in game two, fell by a score of 10-5.

 

Game One: Genesee Community College 8 – Jamestown Community College 1

JCC was led offensively by catcher Wyatt Hennessy (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago HS) who went two-or-four at the plate. Shortstop Nate Johnson (Lakewood, NY, Southwestern High), first baseman Kenny Nickson III (Erie, PA/Erie HS), and left fielder Timothy Beimel (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys HS) each recorded a hit.

 

Hennessy scored the lone run for the Jayhawks coming in the third inning which made the score 6-1.

 

Pitcher Walt Rybczynski (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis HS) earned the loss on the mound, going two innings while surrendering six earned runs. Ethan Phillips (East Durham, NY/Cairo-Durham HS) came in for relief, going two innings giving up three hits. Eddie Bartoli (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown HS) closed the game out, going two innings giving up on earned run on two hits.

 

Game Two: Genesee Community College 10 – Jamestown Community College 5

In the backend of the doubleheader, the Jayhawks were led offensively by centerfielder Timothy Johnson (San Tan Valley, AZ/Comb HS) and pitcher/designated hitter Riley Piazza (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) each had two hits. Both of Riley's hits came by virtue of doubles with T. Johnson also hitting a double. Piazza also led the way with three RBIs with T. Johnson collecting two RBIs.

 

JCC jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after an inning of play before the Cougars scored eight unanswered runs. The Jayhawks tacked on two more runs in the fifth to make it an 8-5 game. GCC added two more runs in the sixth inning.

 

Piazza earned the loss on the mound, going three innings while surrendering three earned runs on six hits. Alex Kemery (Youngsville, PA/Youngsville HS) came in for relief, going one innings while giving up four earned runs on two hits. Kodi Colton (Little Valley, NY/Cattaraugus-Little Valley HS) saw action in one and two-thirds innings, surrendering two earned runs on three hits. Chris Navarro (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) closed the game out, going one-third inning to get the final out.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday, April 15th, as they host Corning Community College at Diethrick park for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
