Marsh Collects Three Hits In True Home Opener

JAMESTOWN - In their true home opener of the season, the Jamestown Community College baseball team dropped a pair of games to visiting Genesee Community College Saturday afternoon at Diethrick Park.

 

In the first game, the Jayhawks (3-15, 2-6 Region 3 West) battled in the first game but fell by a score of 4-1 and in the second game, lost by a score of 16-0.

 

Game One: Genesee Community College 4 - Jamestown Community College 1

JCC was led offensively by designated hitter Lucas Marsh (Salamanca, NY/Ellicottville HS) with a pair of hits including a double. Catcher Wyatt Hennessy (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago HS) also recorded a double while adding an RBI during the game.

 

After scoring a run in the first innings, the Cougars were held scoreless over the next three innings of action. GCC had an opportunity to get some runs across but the Jayhawks were able to get out of a bases-loaded situation in the fourth inning to keep it at 1-0.

 

The Cougars added three runs in the fifth to make it 4-0. In the bottom of the sixth, the Jayhawks were able to scrap across a run as center fielder De'Sean Rogers (Winter Haven, FL/Winter Haven HS) came into score.

 

Pitcher Alex Kemery (Youngsville, PA/Youngsville HS) earned the loss on the mound, going five innings where he surrendered one earned run on seven hits. Eddie Bartoli (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown HS) went the rest of the way, giving up zero runs and one hit.

 

Game Two: Genesee Community College 16 - Jamestown Community College 0

The Jayhawks were led offensively by left fielder Timothy Johnson (San Tan Valley, AZ/Comb HS) and Marsh, each getting a double during the second game of play.

 

Pitcher Ethan Phillips (East DUrham, NY/Cairo-Durham HS) earned the loss on the bump, going two innings giving up three earned runs on three hits. Troy Moussette (Newfield, NY/Newfield HS) came in for relief, going two-thirds innings, surrendering seven earned runs on one hit. Kodi Colton (Little Valley, NY/Cattaraugus-Little Valley HS) came in for one and one-third innings, giving up four earned runs on two hits. Riley Piazza (Jamesotwn, NY/Jamestown HS) came in to close the game out, going one inning and striking out one batter.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Tuesday, April 11th, as they travel to Tompkins Cortland Community College with the first pitch slated for 2 p.m.
