Jayhawks Drop Doubleheader To Westmoreland County

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. – In the last on their 10-game road trip to start the season, the Jamestown Community College baseball team dropped a two-game series against Westmoreland County Community College Tuesday afternoon.

 

The Jayhawks (1-9) dropped the first game by a score of 7-6 and by a score of 12-6 in game two on the day.

 

Game 1: Westmoreland County Community College 7 – Jamestown Community College 6

JCC was led offensively by outfielder Timothy Beimel (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys HS) who went three-for-three at the plate with three RBIs. Infielder Chris Navarro (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) added a double and two RBIs. Pitcher/shortstop Nate Johnson (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern High) added two stolen bases on the day.

 

In the first inning, the Jayhawks jumped out to a three-run lead thanks to Beimel's two-run single to score outfielder Timothy Johnson (San Tan Valley, AZ/San Tan Valley HS) and N. Johnson. Outfielder Hayden Hoag (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca HS) batted in another run with first baseman Kenny Nickson III (Erie, PA/Erie HS) coming in to score.

 

After giving up a run in the bottom of the second inning, JCC came back out in the third by adding two more runs. Navarro connected on a double to score Nickson III and Beimel to make it 5-1. In the bottom of the inning, the Wolfpack added three runs to make it 5-4.

 

In the fourth, Beimel hit a one-run single to score second baseman/pitcher Riley Piazza (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) to make it 6-4.

 

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Westmoreland County scored the tying run as well as the go-ahead run to capture the game.

 

N. Johnson went the first three innings of action, surrendering three earned runs on three hits. Piazza earned the loss on the mound, going three innings giving up three runs on five hits.

 

Game 2: Westmoreland County Community College 12 – Jamestown Community College 6

In the second game of action, JCC was led offensively by third baseman Tanner Potter (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg HS) by going two-for-two at the plate with one double and an RBI. Designated hitter Lucas Marsh (Salamanca, NY/Ellicottville HS) went two-for-three at the plate. Beimel and Hoag each hit a double in the outing as well.

 

The Jayhawks got out to an early 3-0 lead in the first as Beimel's single cleared a bases-loaded situation to bring home N. Johnson, T. Johnson, and Piazza. The Wolfpack responded in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs to make it 4-3.

 

JCC was able to recapture the lead in the third inning, score a pair of runs. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Westmoreland County scored five runs to take a 9-5 lead.

 

Pitcher Eddie Bartoli (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown HS) earned the loss on the mound, giving up eight earned runs on three and two-thirds innings. Alex Kemery (Youngsville, PA/Youngsville HS) went and inning and two-thirds, surrendering three earned runs on six hits. Nickson III came in to close the game out, striking out two batters.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday, March 25th, as they host Onondaga Community College at 1 p.m. to begin NJCAA Region 3 play.
