BATAVIA — Eight errors were the biggest culprit for Jamestown Community College in an NJCAA Region 3 Division III doubleheader sweep at the hands of Genesee CC on Sunday afternoon.

Three run innings in the first and sixth innngs helped the Cougars take a 9-3 lead in Game 1, before holding off a Jayhawks' rally in the seventh inning for a 9-6 win.

The Cougars (22-15, 14-8) led 4-1 after two innings and took a six-run lead after six before Jamestown CC scored three runs in the top of the seventh and brought the tying run to the plate.

The Jayhawks' Steve Krystofiak hit the program's first home run in two years to lead off the top of the seventh. Matt Hair followed with a double and Ryan Johnson singled before Carlo Rodriguez's RBI single made it 9-5. Nelson Rivera followed with an RBI single to score Johnson and put runners on first and second with one out. Chris Williams then grounded into a double play to end the game.

Johnson finished 3 for 4 with a triple while Hair and Rodriguez each had two hits.

Daniel Recinos took the loss, throwing five innings while striking out three and walking three.

Tyler Prospero picked up the win for Genesee CC, throwing 5ª innings while striking out three and walking three. Jakob Macleod, Justin Baly, Justin Taveras, Andrew Shapiro and Bryant Fontanez each had two hits for the Cougars.

In Game 2, Genesee CC took a 3-0 lead after two innings before winning, 5-2.

Jamestown CC made it 3-1 in the fourth inning when Hair led off with a single, Rodriguez followed with a single and Kobe DeJesus followed with a bunt single to load the bases with no outs. After a strikeout, Rivera hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Hair, but another strikeout ended the threat.

Herrera then led off the fifth inning with a single, went first base to third base on an error and scored on Taylor Byrd's RBI single.

The Cougars tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to regain their three-run lead.

Herrera led off the top of the seventh with a double, but the Jayhawks were unable to mount a rally.

Johnson threw a complete-game six-hitter with five strikeouts and five walks while Colin Noeth threw a complete-game seven-hitter with 10 strikeouts and three walks for Genesee CC.

Herrera had two hits for Jamestown CC while Shapiro did the same for the Cougars.

The Jayhawks (7-19, 7-17) will finish their season with a doubleheader at Erie CC on Thursday.
