Caldwell Wins 200 Breaststroke At Regionals In Rochester

ROCHESTER — Led by Matthew Caldwell, Jamestown Community College's men's swimmers finished third while the women finished fifth in the Region 3/Northeast District Championships this weekend at Monroe CC.

Caldwell and the other five members of the men's team as well as five members of the women's team also qualified for the NJCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, which will be held March 1-4 at Erie CC's Burt Flickinger Center on downtown Buffalo.

Caldwell won the 200-yard breaststroke Sunday with a time of 2:27.41. The sophomore from Jamestown was also second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:32.97) and third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.70).

Jessica Schneggenberger, a freshman from Franklinville, was the top performer for the women, taking second in the 400-yard individual medley (5:41.60), third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:56.87) and fifth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:38.29).

Christine Kuzminski, a freshman from Russell, Pennsylvania, was second in 1-meter diving (365.50), third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:19.34) and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.46).

Alex Beckerink, a sophomore from Lakewood, was second in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:41.87), third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.54) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:22.46).

Chris Bradshaw, a sophomore from Jamestown, was third in 1-meter diving (311.20), eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:19.24) and 10th in the 50-yard freestyle (27.34).

Karsen Terry, a freshman from Jamestown, was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.53), fifth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:17.04) and ninth in the 50-yard freestyle (24.93).

Charlie Simons, also a freshman from Jamestown, was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (50.64), fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (57.80) and seventh in the 50-yard freestyle (23.72).

Autumn Ridout, a freshman from Frewsburg, was fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:05.92), fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:27.37) and 11th in the 50-yard freestyle (32.15).

Konnor Bryant, a sophomore from Jamestown, was fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.01), fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:36.25) and ninth in the 100-yard freestyle (55.31).

Taylor White, a sophomore from Brooklyn, was eighth in the 200-yard backstroke (3:02.75) and ninth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:46.51).

Rachel Moller, a sophomore from Frewsburg, was ninth in the 500-yard freestyle (7:00.15), ninth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:10.82) and 10th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:18.42).

Allie Miles was 12th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:52.21).

The men's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Beckerink, Bryant, Simons and Caldwell finished third in 8:04.11 while the same four took third in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:33.68). Beckerink, Terry, Caldwell and Simons took third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.01) while the same four took third in the 400-yard medley relay (3:56.23).

The women's foursome of Kuzminski, Moller, Ridout and Schneggenberger took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:58.37), fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:26.06), fourth in the 400-yard medley relay (5:03.84) and fifth in the 200-yard medley relay (2:15.08).

Genesee CC won the men's title with 479 points, denying Monroe CC the title for the first time in 18 years. Jamestown CC finished third with 271 points.

Monroe CC won the women's title for the 13th straight year with 452 points. The Jayhawks were fifth with 200 points.
