Spot Light Athlete

This week’s spotlight athlete is Nate Skoineczny, a sophomore member of our wrestling team. Last season Nate finished out 3rd at the National level, and is hoping to come out on top this coming week. Wrestling at 149 pounds this season, he took the award of the most outstanding wrestler of the regional tournament and took first place.

Attending JCC and being a Jayhawk was almost a no-brainer for Skoineczny, “I really liked how JCC values their sports programs,” he said, “they put you in a spot to succeed and they give you the opportunities that you need to be a successful student athlete.” When he’s not wrestling, his favorite thing is just being outside and enjoying the outdoors.

The thing he enjoys the most about college athletics is that he enjoys being a role model to younger kids and other athletes that someday would like to compete at the college level. As for wrestling, he loves the thrill of winning, “It’s a good feeling to watch your hard work pay off in competition.” After JCC, he plans to go down to the West Virginia University Regional Training Center and wrestle internationally through their program.

For other athletes his advice is to “work hard in school and it will help you succeed,” being successful in the classroom, is another aspect of being a successful athlete.
