Hey, my name is Carly, and I'm a member of the Jayhawks women's volleyball team. I am also studying within the Individual Studies program at JCC. Volleyball, basketball, and softball were all sports I participated in as a Panama Panther during high school. My athletic career there was very successful, being named the Post Journal Player of the Week and the Fessenden, Lauder and DeAngelo Scholar Athlete. I was the team captain and was on both First and Second Team All Stars for Division 2. When watching sports, my favorite is Team USA women's soccer. Current plans for my future are to attend a four year school, where I will further my education from my study here.
Athlete of the Week Questions
Q: What attracted you to Jamestown Community College Athletics?
I know people that have played for JCC and enjoyed their experience. Also, I was unsure as to what I wanted to major in so going to JCC to save some money and play for a great volleyball program was a definite draw.
Q: Why the volleyball team?
I have always been very active in sports, but volleyball is definitely my number one pick. I enjoy the game and JCC's program has been successful and strong, so it was an easy decision when I decided to try out for the team.
Q: What do you enjoy the most about college athletics?
I not only love the competition, but I love the connections I have made through the volleyball team. It was a great way to get myself involved in the school and to make new friends.
Q: What are your goals for this season?
I have high hopes for the team this year. Obviously, my first goal is to make it to Regionals, but from there I would love to make it to Nationals. It will be a lot of hard work, but I believe we can do it!
Q: Where do you see yourself in the future? (career, life, etc.)
I still have not decided on an exact area of study, but I do want to find a career in the sports realm. So I see myself being successful in a career around sports and loving what I do.
Q: Do you have any advice for aspiring athletes?
I would say to work hard in every aspect of your life and commit yourself. Set goals and work to achieve them. It's not always going to be easy, but it will definitely be worth it.
