Jayhawks Outlast TCCC in Action-Packed Playoff Win

FALCONER, NY - They don't ask how, but how many, and after Saturday night, Jamestown Community College (JCC) men's soccer has another playoff win under its belt, topping Tompkins Cortland Community College (TCCC) 4-3 on the turf of Falconer High School.

Before Jayhawk Nation could find their seats, JCC found the back of the net when sophomore Shane Bennett connected with freshman Sam Hynes just 14 seconds into the game for a 1-0 Jamestown advantage.

The lead didn't last long; TCCC was able to earn the equalizer just seven minutes later, and the crowd knew it was in for a fantastic 90 minutes of soccer.

That 1-1 tie lasted all the way through halftime and into the 57th minute, when TCCC captured its first lead of the game, but the homestanding Jayhawks wasted no time tying the game back up as freshman Luca Marini found his captain Shane Bennett; Bennet's goal squared the contest at 2-2 less than four minutes later.

There was no time to celebrate the tie, as Jamestown immediately reclaimed the lead. It was a freshman-to-freshman connection with Liam Doyle getting the helper to Hynes for his second of the game, with JCC taking a 3-2 lead at the 62nd minute.

The 3-2 score held up to the 87th minute, where Liam Doyle, who had a close goal called back on an offsides, let all his emotion out as he buried a blistering shot one-on-one with the goalie. He was sent all alone on a beauty of an assist from sophomore Braidan Govan; that was important insurance for the Jayhawks to go up 4-2.

That insurance was a life-saver when TCCC was able to draw to within one again just seconds later at 4-3 still in the 87th minute.

From there, JCC played keep-away to capture a one-goal win and move on to the regional semis next Tuesday.
