Jayhawks Topple #5 Herkimer 2-1 in Men's Soccer

HERKIMER, NY - It was arguably the biggest regular season win in Jamestown Community College (JCC) men's soccer history, toppling #5 in the nation, Herkimer, 2-1 at their house on Saturday afternoon.

The game was tied nil-nil heading into halftime, with Theo Merlin keeping the clean sheet for Jamestown going to the break.

Herkimer broke the scoreless tie in the 48th minute when Kai Bell was able to beat the Jayhawks' freshman for a 1-0 advantage.

That score held until the 73rd minute; that is where JCC sophomore Braidan Govan evened things up off of a pass from Casimiro Espeso Gayt, and just like that, the Jayhawks could smell an upset brewing.

The enormous victory came into focus just two minutes after Govan tied it when Liam Doyle was able to find Luca Marini, and the Irishman didn't miss from just outside the box to give JCC a 2-1 edge.

Merlin was perfect after allowing the first goal to secure the 2-1 win.

The massive victory moved JCC to 10-5 on the season and 7-3 in regional action.

It's another tough test up next for Jamestown as they host #2 Finger Lakes Community College on Wednesday at 2:00 PM.
