Ramsey & Johnson Place At JCC Open

JAMESTOWN – In the annual Jamestown Community College Open, the JCC wrestling team held their own against some stiff competition with a pair of wrestlers placing on the day.

 

Brendon Ramsey (Panama, NY/Panama Central) had an outstanding day on the mat, placing second in the 133 pound weight class. Ramsey started the day strong, getting the 17-1 tech. fall over Constantine Gehring of Gannon University. In the quarterfinals, Ramsey got the 10-2 major decision over Will Brodbeck of Hiram College.

 

Moving onto the semifinals, Ramsey grinded out a 6-1 decision win over Joey Powers of Cortland State. In the championship match, Ramsey fell to Freddy Eckles of team Mountain Dew by a 15-0 tech. fall.

 

Brock Johnson (Falconer, NY/Falconer HS) has had a great day on the mat, placing third in the 197 pound weight class. Johnson got the day going with a 17-5 major decision win over Alhaji Sidibe of Ohio Wesleyan College and then got the fall over Louis Crawford in 4:52 in the quarterfinals. Moving onto the semifinals, Johnson fell to Adam Greenman by fall in 1:27.

 

In the consolation semifinals, Johnson got the fall over Geoffery Kaminsky of Ohio Wesleyan College by fall, needing 5:20 to do so. In the third place match, Johnson picked up his third fall of the day, this time coming against Keaton Renfrew of Alfred State.

 

Other Jayhawks wrestlers who picked up a win on the day was De'Aonte Hutchinson (Baltimore, MD/Edgewood HS) in the 125 pound class, James Rankin (Cleveland, OH/Garfield Heights) in the 149 pound class, and Donovan Fiscus (Warren, PA/Warren Area HS) in the 149 pound weight class.

 

Jamestown Community College alumni Dan Torres '20 came out of retirement for the open, placing first in the 197 pound weight class, picking up three falls on the day.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Friday, February 3rd, against the University of Pitt.-Bradford for their final home dual of the season at 7 p.m.
