Jayhawks Shine In Home Opener

JAMESTOWN - Hosting their first duals of the season, the Jamestown Community College wrestling team got a pair of wins, defeating Hiram College by a score of 30-21 and then getting the victory over Penn State Behrend by a score of 33-18.

De'Aonte Hutchinson (Baltimore, MD/Edgewood HS) got the Jayhawks (3-0) off to a quick start, getting the fall over Ian Fuentes in 2:25. Brendon Ramsey (Panama, NY/Panama Central) pushed JCC's lead to 12-0 with a fall over Corey Casterline in 2:20.

 

In the 141 pound match, Luke Potts (Pittsburgh, PA/West Allegheny HS) was bested by Alex Savering by a 7-3 decision. James Rankin (Cleveland, OH/Garfield Heights) got the Jayhawks back in the scoring column, getting the 17-11 decision win over Will Brodbeck to make it 15-3.

 

After forfeiting the next two weight classes, JCC got six points back with Mohammed Mustafa Salimi (Kabal, Afghanistan/Ghazi HS) getting the fall over Kwame Stewart in 38 seconds to make it 21-15. Alex Christy (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia HS) grinded out a win against Jimmy Thomas, getting the 7-4 decision win. Brock Johnson (Falconer, NY/Falconer HS) got the Jayhawks' last win of the dual, getting the fall over Zach Harper needing 1:02 to do so.

JCC carried over their momentum into their second dual of the afternoon, winning their first four matches. Hutchinson got the 11-8 decision win over Zach Dellinger and Ramsey got the forfeit win in the 133 pound class. Potts got in the win column, getting the fall over Jose Ortiz in 1:32. Rankin finished the fast start for JCC, getting the 13-8 decision win over Hunter Savitz to put the Jayhawks up 18-0.

 

After forfeiting the next two weight classes, Salimi made quick work of Andrew Maser with a fall in 1:30 to make it 24-12. Christy grinded out another win, getting the 6-2 decision win over Tyler Speraw. Johnson closed out the day for JCC, getting the fall against Dylan Barber in 2:10. Johnson also competed in an exhibition match, getting the fall over Eric Liu needing 55 seconds to do so.
