Jim Rissel has been an assistant on the men's basketball staff for eight seasons.
During his time as the assistant, Coach Rissel has played an integral role in planning practice and development of players.
Before coaching on the men's side, Rissel served as assistant coach of the women's basketball team under current Director of Athletics and Recreation George Sisson.
During the 2021 spring semester, Rissel served as a volunteer assistant for the men's golf team.
With his guidance, the Jayhawks had one golfer named to the All-Region team at the Region 3 Men's Golf Championship.
Rissel has also played an important role in hosting the NJCAA DIII Men's Golf Championships, serving as Volunteer Coordinator.
Within this role, he seeks out local community members to serve as hole spotters throughout the week-long tournament.
At the end of the 2020-21 academic year, Jim was presented the WNYAC Distinguished Person Award for his contributions to the men's golf team, serving on the George Bataitis Open committee, and as the volunteer coordinator for the national golf championship.
Jim resides in Jamestown, N.Y., with his wife, Sharon, who is also an important volunteer with the men's basketball program.
