Jayhawks Down Bryant & Stratton of Rochester

JAMESTOWN, NY -Jamestown Community College snapped a three-game skid with a resounding 100-84 home win over Bryant & Stratton of Rochester.

The game didn't start looking like a victory for the Jayhawks. Bryant and Stratton scored the first five points before Matthew Bohurjak put JCC on the board with a three. That triple was a sign of things to come for the sophomore. Jamestown tied the game up at ten apiece on an emphatic dunk from Jhamien Smith, who poured in a team-high 28 points. The Jayhawks grabbed their first lead mid-first half on another three, this one from Jalyn Moorehead. The Rochester native finished with 11 on the night. The lead quickly grew to eight on a dunk and free throw from Smith, JCC was up 33-25 with 4:44 left in the half. That advantage would grow to double-digits for the Jayhawks after a layup from Samad Bailey, who scored 25. Bailey then had an assist to Bohurjak, who cashed in another three.

"Matty three is what we call him. He didn't play a lot last year, but this year, his confidence is building. He has been working hard and practicing, and I see that. We threw him in the starting lineup, and good things started to happen. He plays with a lot of heart. He's a smart player, and the guys on the team just love him," said JCC Men's Head Coach Xavier Churnac.

The Bobcats would claw back late in the frame to make it 49-43 JCC at the break. Bailey hit another bucket to grow the lead back to 12 at 55-43. That ten-point margin is where things stood more of the second half before another 'Matty 3" long-range bomb stretched things to 77-60 for the home squad. The Jayhawks sealed this one at the line, hitting 21 free throws on the night. This win builds some momentum for Jamestown before they play a pair of games this weekend.

"It (a win) was very important. We've been losing a couple of close ones. We've been fighting. As a coaching staff we saw the chemistry growing, and we knew we were right there... This win was a big moral boost moving forward," added Churnac.

Next up for JCC is another home date, this time with Community College of Beaver County at 7:30 PM. The Jayhawks return to league play on Saturday when they visit Erie Community College at 3:00 PM.
