Fast Start Propels JCC to Big Win Over St. John Fisher (JV)

JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College's men's basketball team found its shooting touch Friday night in a blowout home win over St. John Fisher (JV) 113-78. The Jayhawks shot 57.7% from the field, hitting 45 of 78 shots.

The scoring touch was obvious early as they jumped out to a quick 8-2 advantage, capped by a pair of free throws from Jalyn Moorehead (Rochester, NY / Southerland HS), who was feeling a little extra motivation playing the program from his backyard. The sophomore finished with 13 on the day.

The Jayhawks doubled up SJF nearing the mid-point of the first half. Samad Bailey (Erie, PA / Erie HS) did most of the damage, scoring 20 points in his JCC debut. He also knocked down all six of his free throw attempts.

Jamestown pushed its lead to 22 with just over four minutes to play before the break, with Jhamien Smith (Erie, PA / Erie HS) doing work down low. Smith led all scorers with 26 on the day and added seven rebounds.

The advantage would sit at 21 at the half, 56-35 JCC.

Joey Valerio (Chagrin Falls, OH / University School) had his best game in a Jayhawks jersey, scoring 15 on the night. His layup mid-way through the second half put Jamestown up 30, 77-47.

Head coach Xavier Churnac went to his bench down the stretch as the lead swelled to over 40.

Oscar Mance (Houston, TX / Lamar HS) came in looking to score, hitting a mid-range jumper to send JCC to a 97-63 lead. Mence hit a triple with just under a minute to play to push the lead to 113-76.

The win pushes JCC's record to 4-9 on the season.

It's a quick turnaround for the Jayhawks as they travel to Lakeland Community College on Saturday for a 1:00 PM tip-off.
