Jayhawks Clipped Late by Herkimer

JAMESTOWN, NY - The home fans were treated to a back-and-forth affair Saturday afternoon inside the JCC PHED Complex, but in the end, they went home disappointed as the home-standing Jayhawks fell 81-73 to the Herkimer Generals.

JCC was in control in the early going, seeing a lead grow to as much as eight, up 20-12. Jhamien Smith (Erie, PA / Erie HS) was doing a lot of the early damage on the inside, scoring a first-half high twelve points. He finished with 14 on the day.

The eight-point lead evaporated quickly, with Herkimer going on an 11-2 run to put Jamestown down for the first time, 23-22. The first half was a seesaw battle throughout, with the home team taking a 36-35 advantage into the locker room.

Coming out of the break, Jamestown appeared to grab control of the game on an 11-2 run capped by Aubrey Nicholson (Brooklyn, NY / Boys and Girls HS) as he knocked down a layup for two of his game-high 22 to put JCC up 52-45 in the middle of the second half.

The Generals quickly chipped away at the deficit, taking the lead 59-57 with just over seven minutes to play.

It was a one-point Herkimer lead at 67-66 with just over three minutes to play, but that is when the Generals seized control. Jamestown was doubled up in the final three minutes, 14-7 leading to the eight-point loss.

The defeat bumps the Jayhawks to 0-2 on the year, 0-1 in Region 3 play.

Jamestown hits the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, November 8th, when they travel to Cuyahoga Community College for a 6:00 PM tip.
