Jayhawks Lose Heartbreaker To Tri-C

JAMESTOWN - Looking to snap a three-game skid, the Jamestown Community College men's basketball team fell to Cuyahoga Community College by a score of 76-74 Monday night at the Physical Education Complex.

The Jayhawks (6-12) were led offensively by sophomores Gonzalo Luque (Madrid, Spain/Instituto Ortega y Gasset) with 23 points, Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS) with 17 points, Elgin Oliver (Pittsburgh, PA/Gateway Senior HS) with 12 points, and Josiah Ransom (Birmingham, AL/Helena HS) with 10 points. Ransom completed the double-double by securing a career-high 14 rebounds (3 offense, 11 defense).

Trailing 37-28 at the break, JCC kept giving Tri-C their best shot by keeping the game under a double-digit deficit.

Trailing 47-38 with 16 minutes left in regulation, the Jayhawk offense started to catch fire by going on a 9-2 run to make it 49-47. During the run, Oliver provided four points with Gray adding three points.

Cuyahoga quickly took back the momentum, finding themselves up 62-53 with 10 minutes left in regulation.

Doing what they've done all season, the Jayhawks slowly chipped away at the lead, making it a 73-72 game with two minutes remaining.

JCC had a look late in the final seconds but came up short with Tri-C converting the backend of their free throw attempts to give them the two-point win.

The Jayhawks went 29-for-60 (48.3 percent) from the floor with the Triceratops going 27-for-66 (40.9 percent) from the field. JCC held a huge advantage on the glass, grabbing 45 rebounds to Tri-C's 29 rebounds.

JCC will be back in action this Wednesday, January 25th, as they travel to No. 2 Niagara County Community College for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
