Jayhawks Drop Region 3 Game In OT To The Kats

JAMESTOWN – Playing in their first Region 3 game of the semester, the Jamestown Community College men's basketball team fell to Erie Community College in overtime by a score of 78-69 Saturday afternoon.

 

The Jayhawks (6-11, 1-3 Region 3) had four scorers in double figures with sophomore forward Gonzalo Luque (Madrid, Spain/Instituto Ortega y Gasset) leading the way with 13 points while sophomore guard Elgin Oliver (Pittsburgh, PA/Gateway Senior HS) adding 12 points. Sophomore guard Chad Chambers (Calera, AL/Calera HS) had 11 points with freshman guard Jalyn Moorehead (Rochester, NY/Southerland HS) chipping in with 10 points. Sophomore forward Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS) came away with 13 rebounds (3 offense, 10 defense).

 

Facing a five-point deficit at the break, JCC got their first lead in the second half with under three minutes left in regulation thanks to an 11-0 run fueled behind six points from Luque to give the Jayhawks a 60-57 advantage.

 

With JCC holding a 62-60 lead with 20 seconds remaining in regulation, the Kats were able to tie the game late. With one last chance to get the win, Chambers had a look in the closing seconds but came up short.

 

In overtime, ECC outscored the Jayhawks 16-7 to secure the win.

 

The Jayhawks went 22-for-65 (33.8 percent) from the field with the Kats going 25-for-66 (37.9 percent) from the floor. ECC also held the slight edge on the glass, grabbing 47 rebounds to JCC's 45.

 

JCC will have a quick turnaround as they will be back in action Monday evening against Cuyahoga Community College at 7 p.m.
