Jayhawks Tripped-Up By No. 4 Niagara County CC

JAMESTOWN - Coming off a pair of wins at home, the Jamestown Community College men's basketball team was slowed down by No. 4 Niagara County Community College by a score of 84-67 Wednesday evening.

 

The Jayhawks (5-8, 1-1 Region 3) were led by freshman guard Jared Martin (Norwich, CT/SPringfield Commonwealth Academy) with 16 points with sophomore's Josiah Ransom (Orange Park, FL/Helena HS) and Santiago Manero (Galicia, Spain) adding 11 points each. Martin led the team with seven rebounds (2 offense, 5 defense) with sophomore forward Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS) adding three blocks.

 

JCC threw the first punch in the fight, opening the game with a 10-2 run. Martin got the scoring going by netting the team's first three baskets. JCC was able to maintain the lead through the first 11 minutes of action where they had the 21-19 lead.

 

The Thunderwolves quickly got in their offensive flow, closing out the half on a 24-5 run to make it 43-26 going into the break.

 

NCCC kept the offensive attack going in the second half where the Jayhawks were able to close the deficit to as little as 12 with under eight minutes in regulation with Manero draining a three-pointer off the dish from sophomore guard Chad Chambers (Calera, AL/Calera HS).

 

The Jayhawks went 24-for-62 (38.7 percent) from the field with the Thunderwolves going 32-for-77 (41.6 percent) from the floor. NCCC held the slight edge on the glass, grabbing 50 rebounds to JCC's 47 rebounds.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday, December 10th, as they travel to Villa Maria College for a 3 p.m. tip.
