Gray And Toure Go For Double-Doubles As Jayhawks Down The Kats

BUFFALO – In another tough test on the road, the Jamestown Community College men's basketball team took care of business in their Region 3 opener, defeating Erie Community College by a score of 66-52.

 

The Jayhawks (3-4, 1-0 Region 3) had a pair of players record double-doubles on the evening with sophomore forward Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS) going for 19 points and 12 rebounds (3 offense, 9 defense) while sophomore guard/forward Bam Toure (Jamaica, NY/St. Johns Prep) scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 boards. Freshman guard Jared Martin (Norwich, CT/Springfield Commonwealth Academy) had a good game offensively, going for 17 points.

 

Both teams traded blows for the first 10 minutes of action before the Kats scored nine unanswered points to make it 21-14 with eight minutes until the break. The Jayhawks quickly flipped the script and closed the half out on an 18-4 run to make it 32-25 at halftime. To help spark the run, Gray and sophomore guard Elgin Oliver (Pittsburgh, PA/Gateway Senior HS) scored six points each.

 

JCC carried their momentum into the second half of play, seeing their biggest lead of the game at the 13:07 mark of the second half where they led 46-28.

 

The Jayhawks went 22-for-52 (42.3 percent) from the field while the Kats went 23-for-74 (31.1 percent) from the floor. JCC held the slight edge on the boards, grabbing 49 rebounds to ECC's 48 rebounds.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday, November 19th, as they travel to Lorain County Community College for a 1 p.m. tip.
