Jayhawks Erase 15-Point Deficit To Down Catamounts

KEYSER, W.Va. - Looking to get their first win of the young season, the Jamestown Community College men's basketball team erased an 11-point halftime deficit to get the 78-73 win over WVU Potomac State College Friday evening at the Jim Walton Classic.

 

The Jayhawks (1-1) were led by sophomore forward Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS) with 22 points and nine rebounds (2 offense, 7 defense) with freshman guard Jared Martin (Norwich, CT/Springfield Commonwealth Academy) adding 12 points. The duo of Santiago Manero (Galicia, Spain) and Bam Toure (Jamaica, NY/St. Johns Prep) chipped in with 10 points each.

 

In the second half, the Catamounts built upon their 11-point lead at the break, leading by as many as 15 points with 15:50 remaining in regulation. JCC quickly erased the deficit, going on a 20-4 run over a seven minute span and took a 60-59 lead with 8:46 to go with a made basket from Martin.

 

The Jayhawks kept the offensive attack going, jumping out to a 69-60 thanks to six points from Gray and a three-pointer from Martin and maintained the lead to close the game out.

 

JCC went 29-for-68 (42.6 percent) from the floor while WVU Potomac State went 29-for-70 (41.4 percent) from the field. The Jayhawks held the edge in rebounds, grabbing 36 to the Catamounts' 30.

 

The Jayhawks will have a quick turnaround as the face Garrett College this afternoon at 2 p.m.
