Jayhawks Are Excited for Nationals to be in their Backyard

CHAUTAUQUA, NY - Jamestown Community College plays host to the 2024 Men's and Women's NJCAA Divison III Golf National Championships this week at Chautauqua Golf Club. JCC will welcome 99 players representing 25 teams from 12 states to Jamestown for the week-long event. While teams will come from as far as Minnesota and Georgia, for the boys in green, it's an amazing opportunity to showcase their game on a grand stage, but one set up in their backyard.

"It is really cool to think about being at our home course. I am excited to wear it (JCC logo). Growing up here my whole life, always seeing people who played for JCC golf, and now I get to do it myself," said JCC freshman and Lakewood native Spencer Bell.

This will be Bell's first time playing in nationals, but teammate Brady Fye, who works at Chautauqua Golf Club, wants to make another fantastic showing for local golf after finishing 19th overall a season ago. "It is awesome. Playing last year was really fun. I know the place really well, so it should be fun," said the sophomore.

Bell and Fye have called Chautauqua County home their entire lives; however, teammate Maxim Johnson has made Western New York his adoptive home after arriving from South Africa almost two years ago. "It means a lot to me to be able to play under Coach Sisson and Coach Rissel and the rest of the team. To make friends with the other colleges as well. It has been a great experience, and I am very grateful to be here." said the Johannesburg product.

Whether they come from a few miles away or several thousands of miles away, the Jayhawks look to put on a good show for all who come to Chautauqua Golf Club this week.
