Men's Baseball vs SUNY Broome CC

The JCC Jayhawks men's baseball team (NJCAA Div II, 2-15) went on the road to face the Hornets of SUNY Broome Community College (NJCAA Div II, 2-6) in double header action.  The Jayhawks bats came alive early, scoring 2 runs in the 1st innings, a whopping 5 runs in the 2nd inning, and another run in the 3rd inning.  The Hornets began to fight their way back into the ball game, scoring 7 runs in the remaining innings but the Jayhawks scored 6 more runs (3 in the 5th and 3 in the 7th) to put the game well out of reach with a 14-7 victory.  The Jayhawks offense was led by #4 Justin Forster (East Otto) who had 4 hits, 3 RBI's, scored 4 runs, and stole 5 bases; #15 Connor Fitzgerald (Ontario) had 1 hit, 2 RBI's and scored 2 runs; #18 Michael Wilcox (Falconer) had 1 hit and 2 RBI's; and #2 Cam Haberberger (Jamestown) had 2 hits and scored 3 RBI's.  The Jayhawks defense was led by pitcher #10 Michael Williamson (Cuba) (1-4) who got the win as he pitched the complete game, faced 34 batters, and only allowed 7 hits, 4 earned runs, and struck out 1 batter. 

The second half of the double header saw a much closer contest between the Jayhawks and the Hornets.  After a scoreless 1st inning, both teams put runs on the board in the 2nd inning.  The Hornets added a second run in the 3rd inning to take a 2-1 lead which would carry over the next two scoreless innings.  The Jayhawks scored in the 6th inning to tie the game 2-2.  And in the top of the 7th, they took the lead 3-2.  However the Hornets responded with a run of their own to send the game into extra innings.  The Hornets scored in the bottom of the 8th to take down the Jayhawks in a heartbreaker, 4-3.  The Jayhawks offense was led by #15 Connor Fitzgerald (Ontario) who had 2 hits; #2 Cam Haberberger (Jamestown) who had 2 stolen bases and scored 1 run; #7 Noah Weinstein (Jamestown) who had 1 hit and 1 RBI; #18 Michael Wilcox (Falconer) who had 1 hit and 1 RBI; and #5 Kyle Mayer (Mayville) had 1 hit and 1 RBI.  The Jayhawks defense was led by pitcher #9 Jeff Miller (Jamestown) who pitched 6 innings, faced 25 batters, and only have up 6 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 3 batters.  Michael Wilcox (1-4) took the loss in pitching 2 innings, facing 12 batters while giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 2 batters.
