JCC's Cadance Main Commits to University of New England for Volleyball

JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College's Cadance Main has committed to continuing her academic and athletic careers at the University of New England.

Main earned All-WNYAC honors as a sophomore for JCC volleyball this season.

The Jamestown native was first on the team in receptions and second in kills and points.

While at UNE, Main plans to study to become an Aquatic Veterinarian.

We caught up with Cadance about her decision.

Why did she pick UNE? "I have been looking into this university since fourth grade. I am very interested in this university because I feel that marine biology can really change the world. With one step at a time in research and laboratory studies, the passion they feel about their work and the knowledge that they share about marine life shine a light in a different way to save lives and inspire others. As you can see on a map, my home town is near a small freshwater lake, but I would like to focus my eyes on the more salty and oceanic side. Here at home, this makes my goals slightly difficult. With the University of New England near the water, it makes improving and learning new skills a lot easier when studying an ocean's ecosystem or salty marine life in general."

What is looking forward to most? "I am looking forward to starting my journey on the water. I can't wait to go out to tag sharks, learn about skates, and rays and get my scuba certification! I want to learn to surf as well. My future goals are to be an aquatic veterinarian or Maine animal rehabilitator."

When does she head to Maine? August 2024 for the fall semester.

What is her major? "Marine biology and minor in animal behavior."

What are her volleyball goals? "Of course, every athlete's dream is to start, but I would also be okay with just being on the team. I have grown so much passion for volleyball and just teammates in general. Their volleyball team is really good! They finished with a winning record of 14-9. This last season ended in the quarter-finals for them. I plan to change that and make it farther in the following seasons!"

How did JCC prepare her for this opportunity? "JCC prepared me by creating an amazing academic opportunity! Not only in academics, but without having SallyAnne Rudny as a coach, I never would have achieved so many accomplishments! She pushed us athletes that wanted a victory to success."
