Jayhawks Go 2-1 To Close Out Region 3 Play

SYRACUSE – In their final Region 3 POD of the season, the Jamestown Community College volleyball came away with a 2-1 record at the Onondaga Community College POD Sunday afternoon.

 

The Jayhawks (14-9, 13-3 Region 3) fell to No. 12 Jefferson Community College in three sets but came back to beat Cayuga Community College and Onondaga Community College by three sets each.

 

No. 12 Jefferson Community College 3 – Jamestown Community College 0

In their first match of the day against national ranked Jefferson Community College, the Jayhawks fell in three sets with scores of 15-25, 12-25, 22-25. Sophomore right side Claire Pumford (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) led the offense with eight kills with freshman middle hitter Cadance Main (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) adding five kills. Main also added four service aces in her offensive output. Setter Madison Johnson (Panama, NY/Panama Central) orchestrated the offense, coming away with 18 assists.

 

On defense, the freshman duo of Sydney Ulasewicz (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) and Mikala Einink (Clymer, NY/Clymer Central) each had eight digs with Johnson chipping in with six digs.

 

Jamestown Community College 3 – Cayuga Community College 0

Looking to rebound in their second match of the day, the Jayhawks did just that as they defeated Cayuga Community College in three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-13. Sophomore outside hitter Emma McCarthy (Olean, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) led the offense, getting eight kills with freshman middle hitter Rian Finch (Randolph, NY/Randolph HS) adding seven kills. Main took advantage of the Spartans' defense, adding another four service aces to her total.

 

Johnson added another 20-plus assist outing, finishing with 24 assist in the match.

 

On the defensive end, Ulasewicz had eight digs with Pumford and Johnson adding six digs each.

 

Jamestown Community College 3 – Onondaga Community College 0

In their final match of the day, the Jayhawks swept the Lazers in three sets with scores of 25-23, 25-21, and 25-9. McCarthy had a srong showing in the final match, collecting 15 kills with Main adding 14 kills herself. Ulasewicz's serving paid dividends on the offensive side, getting four service aces.

 

Johnson facilitated the offense to a T, getting 33 assists for her 11th 30-plus assist output.

 

On defense, Ulasewicz finished with 15 digs to lead the way.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Friday, October 21st, as they host Genesee Community College on Sophomore Night starting at 6 p.m.
