Jayhawks Back To Their Winning Ways

ROCHESTER – In a Thursday night Western New York Athletic Conference tilt, the Jamestown Community College volleyball team got back into the win column, beating Monroe Community College in three straight sets.

 

The Jayhawks (12-8, 3-0 WNYAC) handled the Tribunes in the first two sets with scores of 25-16 and 25-15 while battling in the third to come away with a 25-22 win.

 

JCC had options on the attack as outside hitters Mikala Einink (Clymer, NY/Clymer Central) and Emma McCarthy (Olean, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central), along with right side Claire Pumford (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS), all came away with 10 kills. Setter Madison Johnson (Panama, NY/Panama Central) eclipsed the 30-assist mark for the 11th time this season, finishing with 33 assists.

 

It was also a collaborative effort on the defensive side of the ball as libero Sydney Ulasewicz (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) and Pumford each had 13 digs with Johnson adding 10 digs. At the net, Pumford had four total blocks (2 solo, 2 assists) with middle hitter Bri McEwen (Silver Creek, NY/Silver Creek Central) coming away with three total blocks (2 solo, 1 assist).

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Sunday, October 16th, as they travel east for the Onondaga Community College POD. JCC will face No. 12 Jefferson Community College at 10:30 a.m., Cayuga Community College at approximately 12 p.m., and Onondaga Community College at approximately 3 p.m.
